about to instal a new reducing valve. Some of this equipment cannot at present be found. Some of the pipework was erected by the Japanese. The re-habilitation of this equipment is not a Government liability.

15.

Switchgear, Cables, etc: The high tension 50 cycle switchgear and control gear is in good order and only normal maintenance and spares need be anticipated. The 2,200 volt 60 cycle switchgear is out of date and will become obsolete as the change over from 60 to 50 cycles is completed. The auxiliary switchgear is now in reasonable condition.

The condition of the 125 volt nickel iron battery is unsatisfactory, a complete overhaul and possible replacement of plates may be necessary. This is a Government liability.

All main and control cables are now in good order with the exception of certain cables to No.7 set which does not come within the terms of reference. The Station wiring appears to be in satisfactory condition.

16. Station Auxiliary Transformers: All auxiliary trans- formers appear to be in reasonable condition.

17. Cranes: The elctric crane in the new turbine room which is not covered by the terms of reference and the hand crane in the old turbine room which is reported in good order.

18. Buildings: The buildings have suffered damage to some extent due to Military causes. Where essential, repairs are being or have been effected. A considerable amount of re-glazing will be necessary but this does not come within the terms of reference. The normal maintenance of the whole building should be the responsibility of the Civil Administration

19.

Sub-Stations: Broadly speaking the sub-stations in the Kowloon area are in good order, as is also the high and low tension switchgear subject to maintenance and cleaning being completed. The Kau Pui Shek sub-station was demolished by the Japanese when they increased the size of the adjacent aerodrome. 'Twenty three nickel iron tripping batteries are required to replace others which are useless due to neglect during the occupation, otherwise only normal maintenance of buildings and equipment is anticipated.

20. Cables: The cable system is adequate to meet the requirements with the exception that the Company are replacing approximately 4,000 yards of No.6 bare copper conductor (which had been removed), so as to give an essential supply of electricity to the water works at Shek La Pui.

For replacement of under-verandah wiring and street lighting it is recommended that a nominal quantity of 12,000 yards of 7/.064" VIR single core cable and 10,000 yards of No.6 bare hard drawn copper conductor be ordered.

21. Street Lighting: The Company have raised the question of the rehabilitation of street lighting, which under normal circumstances they maintain under a special agreement with the P.W.D.

Salt Water Tanks: The four small galvanised steel water tanks on the top of the new station building are absolutely derelict and will have to be replaced. are part of the equipment for Nos.11 and 12 boilers. my opinion they should have been either cast iron or concrete
